The Ohio Courts of Appeals Judges Association is comprised of all judges who serve on Ohio appeals courts and who have retired from serving on Ohio appeals courts.  The purpose of the Association is "the implementation of the goals of the Ohio Judicial Conference as set forth in section 105.91 of the Revised Code." (R.C. 2501.03)

The Association is governed by an Executive Committee and by four officers--a Chief Judge, a Chief Judge Elect, a Secretary-Treasurer and a Past Chief Judge.  The Executive Committee is comprised of the officers and the presiding judge of each appellate district.  Elections are held annually at the fall meeting.

The Association meets two times a year, to conduct judicial education around issues of relevance to appeals courts, and to discuss issues related to the administration of justice in the appeals courts.  The meetings take place the last Thursday of February and in the fall (in conjunction with the Ohio Judicial Conference annual meeting).  Each association meeting is preceded by an executive committee meeting.

The Association was formed for the following purposes:

A.  To engage in activities in accordance with the Ohio Code of Judicial Conduct to improve the law, the legal system, and the administration of justice.

B.  To inform, consult with, and otherwise assist executive or legislative bodies or officials on matters concerning the law, the legal system, and the administration of justice.

C.  To make recommendations to public and private fund-granting agencies on projects and programs concerning the law, the legal system, and the administration of justice.

D.  To promote an interchange of experience and suggestions respecting the operation of the judicial system as it pertains to the Common Pleas Courts of Ohio and to consider and recommend for appropriate action suggestions for the improvement of standards, practices, and effectiveness of such courts.

E.  To inform, consult with, and otherwise assist persons and agencies, including governmental agencies, who deal with such courts.

F.  To educate persons serving in, or otherwise connected with, the Common Pleas Courts of Ohio and other members of the public in developments and approved principles relating to such courts.

G.  To engage in educational and research activities in furtherance of the foregoing objectives.

Any active or retired general division common pleas judge may join the association upon payment of dues.  In 2015, there are 244 active judges and 127 retired judge members.

The Association conducts two annual conferences.  The June Summer Conference is at a location of the trustees' choosing during the third week of June.  The Winter Conference is in Columbus during.  These conferences host excellent educational classes and opportunities for judges to share experiences and insights.

The Ohio Association of Domestic Relations Judges (OADRJ) consists of common pleas judges having domestic relations court jurisdiction. The association promotes the common business interest of Ohio domestic relations court judges, and provides leadership for a just and effective domestic relations court system throughout the state of Ohio.

The Association addresses issues affecting divorce, dissolution, legal separation, and annulment, civil domestic violence cases, child custody, child support, parenting time issues, spousal support, and other related matters, as well as court administration aspects of these issues. The Association works closely with OJC Domestic Relations Law and Procedure Committee on legislative issues affecting domestic relations courts.

The Association holds two meetings each year where members have the opportunity to exchange ideas, discuss matters of concern, and interact with fellow domestic relations judges. There is a summer conference held with the Probate and Juvenile judges associations, and a winter meeting as well.

The Ohio Association of Juvenile Court Judges (OAJCJ) consists of common pleas judges having juvenile court jurisdiction.  The association promotes the common business interests of Ohio juvenile court judges, and provides leadership for a just and effective juvenile court system throughout the state of Ohio.

The Association addresses issues affecting juvenile abuse, dependency, and neglect; unruly juveniles (status offenders); and juvenile delinquency, as well as court administration aspects of these issues.  The Association works closely with OJC Juvenile Law and Procedure Committee on legislative issues affecting juvenile courts.

The Association holds two meetings each year where members have the opportunity to exchange ideas, discuss matters of concern, and interact with fellow juvenile court judges.  There is a summer conference held with the Probate and Domestic Relations judges associations, and a winter meeting as well.

The Ohio Association of Probate Judges is comprised of all judges in Ohio with probate court jurisdiction. Each county in Ohio has one judge with probate court jurisdiction with the exception of Champaign, Cuyahoga, and Marion Counties which each have two judges with probate jurisdiction, and Erie County which has three.

The Association, a non-profit organization, operates for educational and charitable purposes. Annually, the Association sponsors a summer educational and business meeting for judges, which promotes collegiality allowing for the sharing of ideas and experiences concerning the operation of probate courts. The Association also provides for the training and education of court employees. The Association sponsors annual seminars for both probate court investigators and deputy clerks. The Association also produces an annual directory of judges with probate, juvenile, and domestic relations jurisdiction.

Any judge of a Municipal or County Court in Ohio is eligible to become a member of the Association of Municipal/County Judges of Ohio upon the payment on his or her behalf of the periodic membership dues as determined by the Trustees.

The Association is organized and is to be operated exclusively for charitable and educational purposes. The officers of the Association fulfill these purposes in a variety of ways. They annually sponsor a winter and summer meeting to provide continuing legal education and to foster an interchange of ideas and experiences among its members. The winter meeting is always held in Columbus while the summer meeting is held at a location away from the capital. Information and news of interest to the judges is presented in an association publication.

The Association provides a judicial perspective to members of the Ohio General Assembly regarding legislation impacting the municipal and county courts in Ohio. In recognition that the Association is a community, they also acknowledge the passing of sitting or retired judges who have distinguished themselves in the profession.
